Flag Hamilton provides more than meals, it provides hope

FLAG, which stands for Front Line Appreciation Group is a group that’s dedicated to helping feed our front line health care workers during the coronavirus pandemic while also keeping our local restaurants in business.

The group, which is now nationwide was started by Liz Bernich of Chatham, NJ.

The COVID-19 crisis has devastated our way of life, but not our spirits.

When Hamilton resident Megan O’Donnell got information about FLAG from her college friend who lives in Chatham, she sprung into action.

O’Donnell had a proven track record of fundraising and organizing. Active in her children’s P.T.A., O’Donnell was the University Heights P.T.A. President and worked to raise over $100,000 through gift auctions in a time frame of three years.

O’Donnell partnered with John Balsamo, owner of Villaggio Iccara and FLAG Hamilton was off and running.

HAMILTON COMMUNITY ANSWERS THE CALL AND RESPONDS!

To date FLAG in Hamilton has delivered more than 1,400 meals to our front line heroes working day in and day out on the front lines fighting a silent killer that has turned our world upside down.

“Initially we planned on focusing on one hospital, but we have expanded to support three different hospitals and medical centers, recognizing the need to fuel the body and spirit of our front line heroes all around our community.  Meals have also been delivered to the Mercer County COVID-19 testing locations, local pharmacies, fire and police stations. The number of people we are able to help each day is 100% dependent upon how much we raise in donations.  New Jersey is being impacted greatly and donating is an easy way everyone can help our front-line heroes from the safety of their homes,” O’Donnell said.

Working with Villaggio Iccara, Jersey Girl Cafe, Classic Sub Shop and Heirloom Catering Company the group has been able to provide individually packaged, single-serving meals…. meals that are delicious and nutritious.

To date the group has raised over $15,000 in donations and paid over $8600 to local restaurants.

“I am thrilled with the response from the community but not surprised”, explained a very humble O’Donnell when asked about the group’s amazing impact.
